OUR TEAM


Julie S. Bedi, Ph.D., Ed.D.

Research and Evaluation Associate 

   Julie aids in the design of evaluation projects including determination of research methodologies; conducts evaluation and research including participant recruitment, data collection and analysis using quantitative and qualitative methods; drafts evaluation reports explaining results of analyses; and assists in preparation of proposals to obtain additional research projects. 

 

   Since joining Scale, Julie has done quantitative analysis on the Complete to Complete Ohio initiative, the Ohio Department of Education Innovative Strategies Grant program, and the Southwest Ohio Prevention Council’s Kinship Care Navigation Program. She has also produced qualitative analysis for the Western Ohio Regional Prevention Council of the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund. She has also assisted with literature reviews of components of public health and education projects. 


    Julie has taught in K-12 as well as higher education. She was also a research assistant at Clemson University/Greenville Health System from 2014-2018, where she was involved with research design; data collection, cleaning, analysis, and presentation; and served as the liaison between the medical and academic research staff. From her work experience, Julie has gained a passion for using high-quality data to support evidence-based decision making that benefits the health and strength of an organization and the individuals it serves. Julies’ research has been published in several journals. 


   Julie graduated from Clemson University with a Ph.D. in Applied Health Research and Evaluation and from Bob Jones University with a doctorate in education. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Southern Wesleyan University 


Karen Dubose

Project Assistant

   Karen Dubose offers administrative support for interviews, focus group, surveys, training, and events. She also provides office management for the organization. 

Prior to working with Scale, Karen served the city of Cincinnati by working within the Metropolitan Sewer District and Greater Cincinnati Water Works departments. During her 32-year tenure, she worked in Human Resources and Payroll, handled training registration and tracking, and made travel arrangements. Additionally, she worked at Macy’s Customer Service Center as a part-time Credit Analyst for 25 years. 


   Karen also served as the Secretary for the American Federation of State, County, & Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) for many years.


   Karen holds an associate degree from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College


Hector Medina

Research, Evaluation, and Product Management Associate

   Hector is an experienced research specialist with a strong background in data analysis and both quantitative and qualitative research. He is skilled in performing research across different countries, employing agile research methodologies, and coordinating international team members.


   In Hector's most recent position, he was a User Experience Quantitative and Qualitative Research Project Manager. In this role, he coordinated the successful implementation of research projects with team members across Mexico,

England, Spain, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, and the USA. He also created the first operational process of quantitative research at the organization through a deep understanding of the research process and collaboration with team members.


   He has worked with clients in health insurance, education, aviation manufacturing, transportation mobility (ridesharing and food delivery apps), media streaming, retail, and financial services. He has additional experience in academic research in business, anthropology, and archaeology.


   He earned an MBA from the IPADE Business School in Mexico City in 2020. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Cincinnati, with minors in Psychology and Philosophy.


   In addition to his academic achievements, Hector has earned multiple professional certificates, such as the Creative Writing Specialization from Wesleyan University, Certified Scrum Master from The Scrum Alliance, and various certificates from IBM and Georgia Institute of Technology.


   Hector is a dual citizen of the US and Mexico and is proficient in English and Spanish, making him an excellent candidate for multicultural projects and collaborations.


Lisa Rose-Schell

Senior Instructional Designer

   Lisa Rose-Schell is Senior Instructional Designer at Scale Strategic Solutions. She brings over 20 years of experience in instructional design and development; learning management administration; and project management. She has held learning design and development roles at PNC University, Cornerstone University, and Fourth Enterprises. She also performs work for Tang+ Company.

 

   Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Factors Psychology from Wright State University.


Autumn L. Smith

Project Manager

   Autumn Smith coordinates and tracks client projects and internal improvement projects for Scale. She has been instrumental supporting a community health needs assessment, evaluation projects, and training development. Autumn has also developed content for training and development for the Vermont Department of Health in her role. Before joining the Scale team, Autumn worked as a Program Manager at Women Helping Women and was the Regional Prevention Center Director at NorthKey Community Care. In each of her previous roles, Autumn oversaw multiple projects while developing new systems and policies to advance and evolve her departments. Autumn has worked closely with local agencies and communities on needs assessments and work plans and has sat on multiple workgroups and coalition boards. She has expertise in program and project management, community and public health, and strategic planning. 


   Autumn is a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) with a bachelor's degree in Community and Public Health from Ohio University and is currently working towards her project management professional (PMP) certification.


Calista H. Smith, PMP, MBA

President

   Calista Smith began C H Smith & Associates dba Scale Strategic Solutions to transform information into action. 


   Smith leads the organization in service to efforts focused on the greater good for communities. In her work with Scale Strategic Solutions, Calista has served as project manager and lead consultant on policy implementation and program evaluation projects for Interact for Health, Ohio Department of Higher Education, the Ohio Department of Education, Westat, and regional councils of the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund. Her work in education has also included strategic planning services, initiative management, and stakeholder facilitation. She has facilitated strategic planning processes for organizations such as the Institute for Higher Education Policy, GRAD Cincinnati, Civitas Development Group, and Middletown Moving Forward. 


   Before starting the firm, Calista was supervisor of development at Butler Tech and had previously managed industrial programs for adult workforce education for the career-technical school district. Calista was also as a senior consultant with Haverstick Consulting, facilitating teams in project management methodologies to create business plans and implement technology applications. Calista started her career with KnowledgeWorks Foundation, holding various roles in public relations, program evaluation, development, and grant selection and monitoring. 


   Calista is a certified project management professional (PMP) with a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and bachelor's degree from Villanova University.
